Red wine

Almost half of our red wines come from Galicia, and that is on purpose. Mencía from the slate terraces of the Ribeira Sacra tastes cooler and finer than most people expect from Spain, and next to it stand Sousón, Merenzao and Brancellao, grapes you will hardly ever see on a supermarket shelf. Add Bobal from Utiel-Requena, Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero and a handful of bottles from Bordeaux, Piedmont and Valais. Close to 100 red wines from small estates, from CHF 16.

Not sure where to start? Raíz de Guzmán 9 meses is our best-selling wine, Tempranillo with nine months in barrique, for CHF 19. The Noria Tinto from Viña de Eufemia is 80 per cent Bobal from old vines and goes well with grilled meat and rice dishes. If you want slate in your glass, take the Algueira Patrimonio 2018, which spent several years maturing at the winery. And the Carres Olivastro comes from Bobal bush vines more than a hundred years old.
