In the glass and in the cellar

Grapes: 52 % Grenache, 48 % Syrah

Origin: AOP Ventoux, Domaine de la Coquillade near Gargas in the Luberon Regional Park (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve)

Vineyard: Vines around the Hotel Coquillade, hand-picked; certified organic (AB), converting to biodynamics since 2024

Soils: Red, sandy limestone soils, well drained

Climate: Mediterranean, hot days and cool nights

Winemaking: Late harvest, varieties fermented separately in steel and concrete

Ageing: Several months in concrete egg and wooden barrel

Alcohol: approx. 14.5 % vol

Grenache leads here, just ahead of Syrah, and the grapes are picked late. Deep ruby, with ripe cherry, black berries and pepper, plus a little toast from the wood. Full on the palate, with silky tannins and a long, spicy finish.

At 14.5 % this is a wine for cooler evenings: lamb, ratatouille, grilled meat, game or aged cheese. In high summer, give the bottle fifteen minutes in the fridge before you open it.

Still unsure?

What is the difference between Elyo and Coquillade?

They are the estate's two ranges from the Luberon, each in white, rosé and red. Elyo is the entry range, with wines at around CHF 29. The Coquillade wines cost CHF 39. Red and rosé in both ranges are made from Syrah and Grenache. The Elyo Blanc blends Marsanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, while the Coquillade Blanc is almost pure Roussanne.
