Ribeiro

The O Figueiral vineyard at Coto de Gomariz has been on record since the 13th century, and Ribeiro is one of Spain's oldest D.O. regions, recognised in 1932. The estate farms around 30 hectares on the slopes of the Avia valley, with granite, slate and sand in the soil, and works only with local grapes: Treixadura, Godello, Albariño and Loureira for white, Sousón, Brancellao, Caiño and Mencía for red. This is the one estate we carry from Ribeiro, with nine wines from CHF 22.

Winemaker Inma Pazos relies on spontaneous fermentation and also works with clay amphorae. The Gomariz X Godello 2023 comes from the terraced O Taboleiro vineyard and tastes of lime, grapefruit and flint, CHF 25. The Colleita Seleccionada Finca O Figueiral 2022 blends 70 per cent Treixadura with Godello, Albariño, Loureira and Lado, ten months in 500-litre barrels, 1,450 bottles. For red, start with the Abadía de Gomariz 2022, half Sousón plus Brancellao, Ferrol and Mencía, CHF 24. And there are 290 bottles of the Brancellao 2022, aged for a year in a clay amphora.
