Like the 2020, the 2021 spent 24 months in French barrels from the Allier. Garnet, with ripe black fruit, blossom and spice on the nose. Robust on the palate, the oak stays in the background, and candied fruit lingers on the finish.
Fifteen percent alcohol and plenty of structure call for game, roast beef or aged cheese. It is the youngest of the Casa Don Ángel vintages.

The winery
Félix Martínez is the third generation to run the bodega, founded in 1945. His bush vines stand at 800 metres at the foot of the Sierra del Remedio, where the Solano wind takes the edge off the summer heat.

Vera de Estenas received it in 2013, in recognition of the estate's microclimate and its consistently high quality. Only a few bodegas in Spain may use the name. The Merlot carries the origin “D.O.P. Pago Vera de Estenas”.
