Cherry and raspberry up front, with violet and toast from nine months in barrique behind them, plus brioche, cocoa and caramel. The 2023 vintage feels fresh, with clear fruit, liquorice and a hint of coffee; the tannins are ripe and well integrated.
This is the most affordable way into Raíz de Guzmán and the wine we would open without much planning: with grilled lamb, red meat or game. Serve at 14 to 16 °C.

Two women shape this bodega in the Ribera del Duero: owner Cayetana Santos, who also owns the Páramo de Guzmán cheeses, and oenologist Mapi Melado. The bodega comes with a tunnel almost a kilometre long.

The bodega was founded in 1998 as the continuation of a project that began in 1985 with the Páramo de Guzmán cheeses. It is in Roa de Duero in the province of Burgos, right in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The owner is Cayetana Santos, and the wines are made by oenologist Mapi Melado. The bodega also has a tunnel almost a kilometre long.
