Ageing: 12 to 14 months in barriques, 80 % French and 20 % American oak
The Crianza sits in the middle of the bodega's range: longer in oak than the 9 meses, shorter than the Reserva. Garnet, with balsamic, violet, cigar box and liquorice on the nose, plus spice and toast from the barriques. Fresh and dense on the palate without being heavy, with liquorice on the finish.
The bodega recommends 14 to 16 °C, which is cooler than red wine is often served. Pair it with roast lamb, braises, grilled meat or an aged hard cheese. If you only try one wine from Raíz de Guzmán, make it this one.

The bodega was founded in 1998 as the continuation of a project that began in 1985 with the Páramo de Guzmán cheeses. It is in Roa de Duero in the province of Burgos, right in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The owner is Cayetana Santos, and the wines are made by oenologist Mapi Melado. The bodega also has a tunnel almost a kilometre long.
