Utiel-Requena

More than one in three bottles we ship comes from Utiel-Requena. The region sits on a plateau west of Valencia, with vines at around 700 metres, up to 900 at Vera de Estenas, on limestone and with cool nights. Verónica Romero's family sold their grapes to the co-operative for generations; she is the first to make her own wine from them. Today the five estates we work with here turn old Bobal vines into red and rosé, alongside white wine and Cava. Just over 40 wines, from CHF 19.

Twelve of them come from Viña de Eufemia in Casas de Eufemia. The Carrascal Rosado de Bobal is our best-selling rosé, the Noria Tinto blends Bobal with a little Merlot, and the Balsa Blanco shows what Tardana and Xarel·lo can do on limestone. The Pago de Tharsys Bobal Diana García comes from vines planted in 1940. And Verónica Romero ages her Los Renteros in clay amphorae, around 900 bottles.
