Risco is Algueira's pure Merenzao, fermented as whole bunches with all the stems, and it has just 12.5% alcohol. The 2013 is intense ruby and smells of ripe red and dark berries, blackberry, redcurrant and cherry, with graphite and balsamic notes. Noticeable but fine tannins, lively acidity and a long finish with slate.
At thirteen years old it is the oldest Risco we stock. Serve it at 16 to 18 °C with grilled meat, a hearty stew or aged cheese.

In 1979 Fernando planted his first plot on an overgrown piece of land belonging to his wife Ana's family. Today the vines grow on Roman-era terraces above the Sil, on slopes of up to 85%.

It began in 1979, when Fernando planted his first plot, “Carballo Cobo”, on an overgrown piece of land belonging to his wife Ana's family. Reviving viticulture in such a tough setting was a real risk. Today the family farms around 25 hectares in 86 plots along the Sil and beyond. Algueira is one of the pioneers that brought heroic viticulture back to the Ribeira Sacra.
