Vel'Uveyra is Galician for «look at the vineyard». At Ronsel do Sil it is the everyday Mencía, light at 12% alcohol. Blackberry, sloe and dried violets on the nose, with herbs; the Garnacha and Mouratón add a little depth. Creamy on the palate, with fresh acidity, balsamic notes and fine spice.
Drink it with tapas, grilled vegetables or white meat. In summer we would give it half an hour in the fridge.

The winery
María José Yravedra is one of Spain's first women winemakers. With her husband Felipe she brought the old bodega on the Sil back to life in 2010, and since then the wine there has moved by gravity alone.

Ronsel is the wake a boat leaves behind. The bodega sits right at the bottom of the steep slopes of the Sil, near Sacardebois, looking across to the vineyards of Amandi. The vines belong to the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.
