A very sunny year like 2016, but the 2018 leans on fruit rather than minerality. Cherry and raspberry lead, with white pepper, clove and Mediterranean herbs behind. Particularly juicy on the palate, with fine tannins, lively acidity and some spice on the long finish. 2018 is one of the estate's top vintages.
If not everyone at the table is a wine buff, this is the magnum we would choose. Serve it with game, lamb or aged cheese; it still has years ahead.

The winery
José Mas makes exactly one wine, Massuria, from Mencía vines planted between 1912 and 1970. He worked for the Moueix family of Pétrus and is giving himself another 20 years to make it perfect.

Because he has set himself a goal: the Massuria is to become the reference wine of the Bierzo and of Mencía. So he puts everything into this one grape and this one wine, and quality comes before quantity. José is giving himself another 20 years to make it perfect.
