Viña de Eufemia from Casas de Eufemia (Utiel-Requena, Valencia) builds on the region's long winemaking tradition, where the indigenous red grape variety Bobal has played a leading role for centuries. With a clear focus on sustainability, biodiversity, and permaculture, the project revitalizes the historic vineyards and produces wines that reflect this new natural balance: authentic, full of character, and in harmony with the terroir .

Origin 

Viña de Eufemia is located in Casas de Eufemia near Utiel-Requena, a region that has been known for centuries for its Bobal vines and distinctive red-wine identity. The finest soils in the entire DO Utiel-Requena are found around the village of Casas de Eufemia – rich in limestone, well-drained, and ideal for deep-rooted, old vines. This is exactly where the winery’s various parcels are located. Limestone-rich soils, a continental climate with Mediterranean influence, and altitudes around 700 metres shape the style of the wines — structured, fresh, and clearly terroir-driven.”

The Winemakers 

Viña de Eufemia is led by winemakers Héctor Benavente and Claudio Piqueras Doménech, supported by consulting oenologist Jean-François Hébrard. Together, they aim to revive and diversify the vineyards of Casas de Eufemia through permaculture and regenerative farming practices. Their approach combines a deep understanding of the local landscape and the region’s native grape varieties — foremost Bobal, but also Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Tardana — with precise vineyard work and a deliberately minimal-intervention philosophy in the cellar. Every step is guided by respect for nature, soil and biodiversity. Their ambition is to craft wines that genuinely reflect where they come from — shaped by the land, the climate and the natural rhythm of the vineyard.


Philosophy 

Viña de Eufemia’s philosophy is rooted in permaculture, regenerative farming and a profound respect for nature. The vineyards are not merely cultivated but treated as living ecosystems that deserve care, balance and biodiversity. At the core lies a commitment to diversity over monoculture, natural cover crops, healthy soils and the harmonious interaction of plants, microorganisms and vines. In the cellar, the same mindset prevails: as little intervention as possible, allowing the vineyard’s true character to express itself in the wine. The result is a collection of wines defined by clarity, freshness and depth — wines that reflect the place from which they come.

Vinification 

Vinification at Viña de Eufemia is guided by a minimal-intervention philosophy: each parcel is vinified separately in small batches, fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks and ceramic vessels using only native yeasts, and the wines are neither filtered nor fined; oak is used only sparingly, limited to large foudres and selected barricas for specific single-parcel wines, ensuring the pure expression of the terroir remains at the forefront.
