Algueira Pizarra 2012 displays a deep garnet red with light brick-red reflections, a sign of its ripeness. The nose unfolds with intense aromas of ripe red fruits such as raspberries and black cherries, complemented by notes of dried herbs, graphite, and a hint of vanilla. The mineral component of the slate soil lends the wine depth and elegance.
On the palate, the 2012 vintage presents itself as powerful yet smooth, with well-integrated, ripe tannins and a refreshing acidity that provides balance. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and subtle spices continue, culminating in a long, minerally-driven finish. The harmonious balance between fruit, wood, and terroir makes this wine particularly expressive.
Algueira Pizarra 2012 is a wine with impressive aging potential, perfect for immediate consumption or further storage. Ideally served at 16–18°C, it pairs perfectly with leg of lamb, roast venison, or aged cheese. An authentic representative of the Ribeira Sacra, it captures the soul of this exceptional region.
